Just when the Sygnus X-1 had firmly established itself as the new benchmark in mains power filters, we achieved a groundbreaking innovation that pushed the boundaries of what once seemed impossible.
Over the past few months we have developed the innovative AEC technology, which is designed to stabilize the earth of audio systems. This revolutionary technology significantly reduces the noise on the earth of a connected audio system, resulting in a remarkably lower audible noise floor. The outcome is a more tranquil music reproduction, unveiling more audible details, providing sharper imaging and a larger soundstage. Furthermore, it enhances low-end control and delivers a sparkling high end without harshness.
AEC is meticulously designed to complement a balanced single-phase galvanically isolated power supply, such as the Sygnus X-1. One of the notable advantages of this type of power supply is its ability to significantly reduce the current through the earth conductor, making an earth current of less than 100µA feasible. By integrating AEC, this earth current is further diminished, potentially reducing it to below 1µA !
Measurable effectiveness
To demonstrate the effectiveness of the AEC technology, we have measured the earth current in an average audio set build around the Sygnus X-1. The measured current is shown in the image below on the left: the RMS current is about 20µA. This already is a very low earth current, with very great results.
When AEC technology was added to the Sygnus X-1, the current draining to earth almost completely disappeared, as shown in the image on the right. The RMS current is even below the noise floor of the micro-ampere measuring instrument used. It is also immediately noticeable that activating AEC technology results in an impressive improvement in sound reproduction. And that’s what it’s all about in the end!
AEC Implementation
We have implemented AEC in a compact module that can be used as a building block in our mains power filters. For optimal performance, this module must be precisely matched with the mains power filter, making this a complex process. Currently, we are researching how to develop a power filter with integrated AEC technology. The module shown will not be available for purchase as a standalone component due to the technical complexity of integrating it into existing systems.
