From Medical Precision to an Audiophile Necessity
The story of Haandrikman Audio Systems begins with a concrete, real-world problem. An audiophile with a top-tier system noticed that the sound quality of his setup would completely "collapse" at a fixed time almost every day—a direct result of the continuously increasing pollution on the mains power. He approached Ronald Haandrikman, whose company in the medical industry produces, among other things, power supply systems with isolation transformers for hospitals. The standards for these systems are extremely high.
For Ronald, an audio enthusiast himself with a background in developing high-end Class A and AB amplifiers, the interest was immediately piqued. A first prototype was built and submitted for evaluation to Wim van Kraanen, the highly respected owner of Analogue Audio Products in Nieuwegein. His reaction after the first listening session spoke volumes: "I finally got to hear a glimpse of the sound quality I was accustomed to 10 – 15 years ago." This was the unmistakable validation needed to take the project to the next level.

The Philosophy
Addressing the Cause, Not the Symptom
Many audiophiles pay insufficient attention to the impact of ever-increasing mains pollution, even though this is precisely where significant gains can be made. This pollution does not manifest as a distinct hum or other audible noise but rather hides in the background. This results, for example, in haze, excessive sharpness, dynamic limitation, loss of musical detail, or a reduction of the image size. Usually, it's a combination of these unwanted effects. Haandrikman’s philosophy is that an audio system can only be as good as the quality of the mains voltage used to power de audio equipment. Instead of fighting symptoms, Haandrikman addresses the root cause by galvanically separating and purifying the power supply, with one crucial prerequisite: the dynamics must not be limited.
The Process
A Unique Collaboration
What followed was an intensive development process, driven by the expertise of two worlds. Wim van Kraanen was so impressed by the potential that he made his listening room, with his high-end reference system, available as a testing environment.
Ronald visited weekly with clever adjustments and new circuits. The collaboration was perfect: Ronald provided the technical know-how, and Wim offered his trained ears and honest, critical feedback. The prototype of the Sygnus X-1 was refined step-by-step and scaled up to a level that is rare even at the pinnacle of the audio world. This unique synergy between technician and listening expert ensured that the Sygnus X-1 is not only technically perfect but also provides the most musical solution in practice.

The Next Step
From Passion Project to Professionalism
What began as a passionate experiment quickly grew into a serious product. Initially, it was no more than a hobby that got out of hand, but when the first information about the Sygnus X-1 appeared online, demand arose organically from the audiophile community. The desire to experience the Sygnus X-1 in their own system rapidly increased.
This growth continued steadily until a tipping point: dealers and Hi-Fi stores showed serious interest. Demand for both the Sygnus X-1 and the Nexum HQ Power Cables, which had been developed in the meantime, kept increasing. This marked the moment to take the next step. To professionalize this growth and ensure quality, Haandrikman Audio Systems was officially founded in February 2024.
